In line with The New Teachers’ Policy in Uganda, MTBI Teacher Training School is offering you with an Opportunity to study, train or be retrained in;
- Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) – 2 Years – 3 Sessions per Year
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Development (DECE) – 2 Years
- Certificate in Early Childhood Education (CEC) – 2 Years
- Child Care Certificate (CC) – 2 Years
The Two Programmes are tenable under Makerere University Institute of Teacher Education and Research (MITER) conducting both Pre- service and In-service Training. Both the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Development (DECE) are designed to produce teachers with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, sound professional and managerial skills and ability to adapt to the ever-changing educational needs in Uganda. Both courses focus on quality instruction and management of ECD & Primary schools.

MTBI Teacher Training School is an Autonomous College within the MTBI Campus that has standing Collaboration with Makerere University Institute of Teacher Education and Research (MITER) to offer the above 2-Year Diploma Programmes for both Pre- service and In-service Training. Both the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Development (DECE) are designed to produce teachers with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, sound professional and managerial skills and ability to adapt to the ever-changing educational needs in Uganda. Entry Requirements for Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)
- Applicants for DPTE must have obtained a Grade III Teacher’s Certificate from a Chartered Training Institution.
Entry Requirements for Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Development (DECE)
- Applicants for DECE must have obtained a 2-Year Certificate in Early Childhood Education (CEC) from a Chartered Training Institution or a Grade III Teacher’s Certificate Holders who specialized in ECD.
- Direct Entrants should have obtained at least One Principle Pass and 2 Subsidiaries at A Level.
Entry Requirements for Certificate in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- You must have passed 6 Subjects and English must be one (1) of the Subjects passed
Entry Requirements for Child Care Certificate
- You must have successfully completed Primary Seven or did not attain the minimum academic entry requirements for ECE.
Mode of Delivery
The Programme delivered Face to Face by MTBI Tutors for both Pre-service & In-service / holiday Classes.

MAKERERE UNIVERSITY APPLICATION FEE PAYMENT
Before submitting applications, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of UGX 50,000/= to the Makerere University College of Education and External Studies Account in any Stanbic Bank, Account Title: MU COEES Projects, Account Number: 9030005866528, Makerere Branch. Evidence of the Applicants’ payment must be attached to the application fee when submitting their forms online.
